Helping the communities we live
in, is a goal of The Dazzling
Desert. To that
end, we selected a very important "cause" to
help support! Through my good friend Liz Vidad
who was the Public Education Specialist for the
Fire Department of Lake Havasu City, we decided
to support the Project
L.I.F.E. program. Being a former nurse and
an EMT, this project was a perfect fit.

The first AED was donated
to the Lake Havasu Unified School District #1 to be placed
at the High School. Gail Malay, Superintendent
accepted the donation on behalf of the School District. View the posting of the
donation on the Lake Havasu Unified School District #1

As a parent
watching many, many of my kids sporting events I realize
how devastating a death of a vibrant young person in
the prime of their life would be to a family. To be
able to help prevent this or assist any spectator at
the event is unmatched in the ways of helping. |
 |
In 2002,
the Good Samaritan Law covered Automatic External
Defibrillator's (AED) and the units were 100% foolproof
with the FDA giving their approval. That same year,
the Lake Havasu City Fire Department started their
AED program, Project L.I.F.E. Lake Havasu's Initiative
For Early Defibrillation. |
|
If someone has a cardiac arrest,
performing CPR alone gives the victim a 4% chance of
survival. Performing CPR and using an AED brings those
chances of survival up to 70%. |
|
In
Lake Havasu City, there are almost 30 locations,
to date, that have an AED on-site. We've just added
another location - see above picture. Click here to see the article that was printed in the first Dazzling Desert issue. |

How
did we do that? Through the money we collected for
advertisements in this “free” magazine,
we set aside a portion to purchase this AED. We
want our advertisers to know that their advertising
dollars are going back into the community. |
|
There
have been many challenges from local community
members, in fact Dr. James Tammaro, our featured "Remarkable Person" in
our first issue of The Dazzling Desert challenged
the community with his contribution of funds for the
AED's. Here's a chance to get more for your money.
If you place an ad in The Dazzling
Desert, part of
that advertising dollars will go towards this "Life
Saving" program. |
